Activities & Wellbeing
At Ashton Care we believe activities are one of the most important services we can offer. If people are stimulated and happy then this increases mood and this then has a positive domino effect on overall health. We offer a range of activities both in house and community based to try and suit the needs of the people who live with us or who use our domiciliary care service. We hold bi-monthly residents’ meetings to actively get ideas from those living within our homes and have feedback and suggestion forms for those living in their own homes. We also hold monthly activities coordinator meetings with the person in charge of activities from all of our services so we can share ideas and resources. Some of the activities we have been enjoying are:
- Minibus outings to local places of interest such as Arundel Castle, Portsmouth dockyards or Tangmere Aviation Museum. We have even made trips to Marwell Zoo! Our minibus is free of charge to use as we feel it is important that all those living in our homes have the opportunity to access the community in which they live*.
- Lunch trips out to local pubs and restaurants. In good weather we also enjoy a picnic in nice scenery such as up at Goodwood Trundle.
- Pampering – Hairdressing and nails at our salon.
- We have been doing themed days for example a Chinese day where we listened to music from the region, had Chinese food and hung Chinese decorations.
- We often go for walks in the local area, into town or the local parade of shops.
- We do a lot of Arts ands Crafts in house and theme this on what is happening at the time, for example in February we may focus on Valentines day.
- For mental stimulation we like to do a lot of games and quizzes or simply reminiscence.
- We have resources such as a pool table, an activity projector, pop up home cinema screen and a 10 in 1 games table which we like to use to have tournaments with all of our services.
For those living in their own homes we offer social activities at our domiciliary office such as afternoon tea, games afternoon and pumpkin carving just to name a few!
*Some activities such as a trip Marwell Zoo incur entry costs. Use of the minibus itself is free of charge.
